FLOWERING TEA
Flowering tea, also known as blooming tea, is a small bundle of dried tea leaves and natural flowers hand-sewn together with a cotton thread. When steeped, flowering tea expands and unfurls similar to a blooming flower. Our flowering teas are created by artisans in remote tea gardens of southwestern Yunnan province in China, near the borders of Laos and Vietnam. To make flowering tea, tea leaves are picked in the early morning. While damp, leaves are carefully flattened and sewn with cotton thread into various shapes. During this step of the making process, artisans add either single or a combination of flowers such as jasmine, lily, globe amaranth, or marigold inside the bundles. Once tea leaves and flowers are sewn together, leaves are shaped into balls and go through the usual drying, oxidation and firing process to create flowering tea. |
